We’ve all been there. You know that moment. You’ve put all your energy into doing a job, serving a client or crafting the perfect sales pitch package. And the response is “that wasn’t good enough”.
Crest fallen we’re quick to assume the judgment of our performance is the judgment of our identity.
But it is not.
In life and especially in business, you have to know 2 things.
1) You will be judged based on your performance.
2) You will be judged based on your identity.
Don’t confuse the two.
Yes, you want to make sure that your performance matches the ethical standards your identity ascribes to. But the rating of what you do is not the same as the rating of who you are.
So the next time you get ready to make a pitch or walk into a performance review, walk with your head high. Regardless of the outcome, know that you are more than this rating.
